Yesterday, July 10th 2023, saw our second competition of the year judged by the excellent Caroline Preece. I think most, if not all our members gained some valuable insight into the psycology of photographers, as Caroline asked us "why did we take the picture? What was the motivation behind pressing the shutter?" An insight and metaphor I particularly liked was the image of the singer, on stage, with the backing singers in the background. Do the backing singers need prominence with the singer? Shouldn't the light, contrast, and saturation be turned down for the supporting cast?
There was some great images submitted, and the judging must have been challenging. Of particular note was two of our newest members picking up a Bronze (Roksana) and a Highly Commended (Mike). Fabulous guys, and well deserved!
In reverse order of the placed images, we have first the four Commended images:

Commended: Sunny Steam Roller - Miles Turnbull

Commended: Outward Bound - Ian Sprott

Commended: Step on it, the weather's closing in - Andy Gilbert

Commended: Tyred - Steve Curzon
Here are the two Highly Commended images:

Highly Commended: Take off - Peter Thirsk

Highly Commended: New Tyres - Mike Hudson
And now the top four photographs:

Very Highly Commended: Two Way Traffic - David Mellor

Third Placed (Bronze): Laal Ratty - Roksana Oniszczuk

Second Placed (Silver): The Man in the Mirror - Adrian Battersby

First Placed (Gold): Platform 5 - Steve Curzon
Congratulations to all placed authors, and massive thanks to all who submitted images. The next competition will be on the theme of Architecture, and will be judged on the 18th of September.
